SEMCO Window & Door Repair

WindowFixGuru™ provides independent repair and restoration for SEMCO windows and patio doors. SEMCO manufactured wood and aluminum-clad wood windows and doors for decades, and many of these products remain installed in homes today. The manufacturer ceased operations at the end of 2019, but that does not automatically mean an existing SEMCO window needs complete replacement.

Our approach is repair-first. Operators, locks, hinges, double-hung components, weatherstripping, screens, insulated glass, patio-door hardware, and localized wood deterioration can often be evaluated as individual repair problems while preserving the original window or door.

SEMCO Is a Discontinued Window Brand

SEMCO Windows & Doors went out of business on December 31, 2019. Sierra Pacific Windows acquired SEMCO's manufacturing facility and production assets in 2020, but Sierra Pacific stated that it would not manufacture SEMCO products.

This distinction is important for homeowners searching for service. A SEMCO window is not automatically a Sierra Pacific window, and current Sierra Pacific parts should not be assumed to fit an older SEMCO product. Existing SEMCO units should be identified and repaired according to their original construction and hardware.

SEMCO Wood & Aluminum-Clad Wood Window Repair

SEMCO was known primarily for wood and aluminum-clad wood windows. These systems combine serviceable operating hardware and insulated glass with wood sash and frame components that can develop age- or moisture-related deterioration.

A failed operator, broken lock, foggy glass unit, or localized wood problem should be diagnosed separately from the overall window. When the main structure remains sound, repair can preserve the original opening and avoid unnecessary full replacement.

SEMCO Rotten Wood Repair & Restoration

Wood deterioration is an important service opportunity on older SEMCO windows, especially around sash corners, lower rails, sills, frame joints, glazing areas, and locations exposed to repeated moisture.

WindowFixGuru™ evaluates the extent of deterioration before recommending repair. Localized rotten wood may be restored or rebuilt when surrounding material remains structurally sound. More extensive damage requires a broader assessment of the sash, frame, sill, cladding, glazing, and water-management conditions.

SEMCO Casement Window Repair

Casement repair is one of the strongest SEMCO service categories because replacement-parts resources distinguish several generations of operators, locks, hinges, handles, covers, tracks, and related components.

A casement that is hard to open, will not close completely, spins at the crank, drags, or will not lock can have an operator problem, hinge wear, sash misalignment, lock resistance, weatherstrip interference, or a combination of issues.

SEMCO Casement Operators by Manufacturing Era

SEMCO casement hardware changed over time. Current legacy-parts resources identify single-arm operators used on older windows, dual-arm and dyad operators used on later products, and a major hardware distinction around June 2005.

For example, legacy parts listings identify single-arm casement operators for certain 1976-1986 windows, dual-arm and dyad operators for later pre-2005 units, and different operator linkages for windows manufactured from June 2005 onward. Exact arm configuration, glass width, handing, mounting pattern, and window generation must be verified before ordering.

SEMCO Casement Locks, Hinges & Multipoint Hardware

Legacy SEMCO parts remain available in categories such as sash locks and keepers, adjustable hinges and tracks, operator-arm tracks, crank handles and covers, and multipoint locking components.

Replacing only the visible handle may not solve a difficult window. WindowFixGuru™ inspects the sash, operator, hinge system, locks, keepers, frame alignment, and weatherstripping so the actual source of resistance can be corrected.

SEMCO Awning Window Repair

SEMCO awning windows use many of the same repair principles as casements but have their own operator sizes, locks, hinges, and sash geometry. Legacy-parts resources distinguish awning operators manufactured before and after the June 2005 hardware transition.

Service can include operators, crank handles, covers, locks, hinges, tracks, weatherstripping, screens, glass, and sash adjustment. Narrow-gauge and standard operator configurations should be identified before parts are ordered.

SEMCO Double-Hung Window Repair

SEMCO produced wood and clad double-hung windows with serviceable sash-support, jamb, tilt, lock, weatherstrip, screen, and glazing components. Older double-hung products may use generation-specific jamb liners, tilt pins, balance systems, or related hardware.

A sash that falls, will not stay open, binds, tilts incorrectly, or becomes difficult to lock should be diagnosed before parts are selected. Window size, sash weight, manufacturing period, jamb system, and existing hardware can all affect the repair.

A wide black framed sliding window

SEMCO Sliding / Gliding Window Repair

SEMCO also produced sliding or gliding windows. Difficult movement can result from worn guides or rollers, track conditions, locks, weatherstripping, sash alignment, or frame movement.

We evaluate the complete moving sash system, including tracks, hardware, seals, screen, glass, and alignment, before recommending component replacement.

SEMCO Foggy & Broken Glass Replacement

Fog, haze, or moisture between panes generally indicates failure of an insulated glass seal. Broken or cracked glass is a separate issue, but neither condition automatically requires replacement of the complete SEMCO window.

When the wood sash and frame remain serviceable, WindowFixGuru™ can evaluate insulated-glass replacement. Correct specifications depend on dimensions, overall thickness, coatings, spacer construction, safety requirements, glazing stops, and the original sash design.

SEMCO Glass Replacement in Wood Sash

Glass replacement in an older wood or clad-wood sash requires attention to more than glass dimensions. Glazing beads or stops, wood condition, cladding, sealants, drainage, and the condition of the sash corners should be checked before the new unit is installed.

If wood deterioration is discovered during glazing work, combining glass replacement with localized sash restoration can be more practical than installing new glass into a compromised sash.

SEMCO Weatherstripping & Draft Repair

Drafts can result from worn weatherstripping, sash misalignment, loose hardware, wood movement, or gaps created by age and repeated operation. Weatherstripping should therefore be evaluated together with the sash and operating hardware.

For discontinued SEMCO products, matching the original profile may require careful identification. If the exact profile is unavailable, a compatible repair should be evaluated without preventing the sash from closing or locking correctly.

SEMCO Screens & Wood Grilles

Legacy SEMCO parts resources continue to list screens for casement windows and wood grille components for some products. Screen frame dimensions, attachment hardware, frame profile, and color can vary.

WindowFixGuru™ can coordinate screen repair or replacement with other window work so that operators, locks, weatherstripping, and screens function correctly together.

SEMCO Sliding Patio Door Repair

SEMCO manufactured sliding patio doors in addition to windows. Service can involve rollers, tracks, handles, locks, weatherstripping, screens, insulated glass, panel alignment, and wood or clad components.

A heavy or noisy patio door should be inspected as a complete system. Worn rollers may be part of the problem, but track damage, panel alignment, lock position, frame movement, and seal condition can also affect operation.

A French door standing open to a deck

SEMCO Hinged & French Patio Door Repair

SEMCO also produced swinging and French patio doors. Repair can involve hinges, multipoint or mortise-style hardware, handles, locks, astragal components, weatherstripping, thresholds, glass, alignment, and localized wood deterioration.

Older door hardware should be identified by dimensions, handing, mounting pattern, and existing markings before replacement components are selected.

SEMCO Replacement Parts After the Factory Closure

Although SEMCO no longer manufactures windows and doors, specialized parts suppliers continue to list genuine and legacy SEMCO replacement components for casements, awnings, double-hung windows, gliding windows, sliding patio doors, and hinged patio doors.

Part availability is not guaranteed. Some components are discontinued, some are special-order, and similar-looking parts can belong to different manufacturing periods. WindowFixGuru™ identifies the failed component first and then evaluates original, remaining-stock, compatible, or alternative repair options.

How We Identify Older SEMCO Parts

Useful identification information can include full-window photos, close-ups of hardware, sash and frame dimensions, visible-glass dimensions, operator arm shape, lock and keeper configuration, hinge tracks, handing, labels, etching, part numbers, and approximate installation date.

This matters because legacy SEMCO parts listings frequently distinguish components by manufacturing era - including pre-2005 and post-2005 hardware - and sometimes by exact visible-glass dimensions.

Repair SEMCO Windows or Replace Them?

A discontinued brand does not automatically mean replacement is the best choice. Operators, locks, hinges, screens, weatherstripping, insulated glass, double-hung components, patio-door hardware, and localized wood deterioration can all be repair-level problems.

Replacement becomes more appropriate when deterioration is extensive, the sash or frame is structurally compromised, critical parts cannot be repaired or adapted, or the cost and scope of repair no longer make sense. WindowFixGuru™ evaluates repair first.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you repair SEMCO windows even though the company closed?

Yes. Many SEMCO problems can still be repaired using existing, legacy, compatible, or adapted components after the installed window and hardware are identified.

Is SEMCO still in business?

No. SEMCO Windows & Doors ceased operations at the end of 2019.

Did Sierra Pacific take over SEMCO windows?

Sierra Pacific acquired SEMCO's manufacturing facility and production assets in 2020, but stated that it would not manufacture SEMCO products. Older SEMCO units should not be treated as Sierra Pacific products.

Can you repair rotten wood on SEMCO windows?

Yes, when deterioration is localized and the remaining sash or frame is structurally suitable for restoration.

Can you repair a SEMCO casement operator?

Often, yes. SEMCO used different operator styles and generations, so the existing arm configuration, handing, dimensions, and manufacturing era should be identified first.

Why does my SEMCO crank spin without opening the window?

The handle, operator gear, linkage, or another part of the operating system may be worn or damaged. The complete mechanism should be inspected.

Can you repair SEMCO casement locks?

Yes. Legacy parts include sash locks, keepers, multipoint components, hinges, and related hardware for various SEMCO generations.

Can you repair SEMCO awning windows?

Yes. Service can include operators, handles, locks, hinges, tracks, weatherstripping, screens, glass, and sash alignment.

Can you repair SEMCO double-hung windows?

Yes. We can evaluate sash-support components, jamb liners, tilt hardware, locks, weatherstripping, screens, glass, and alignment.

Can you replace foggy glass in a SEMCO window?

In many cases, yes. If the sash and frame remain serviceable, the failed insulated glass unit may be replaceable.

Can you replace broken SEMCO glass?

Often, yes. Glass dimensions, thickness, coatings, safety requirements, glazing stops, and sash condition should be verified first.

Can you find parts for old SEMCO windows?

Many legacy parts remain available through specialized suppliers, but availability depends on the exact component and manufacturing era.

Why does the manufacturing year matter for SEMCO parts?

SEMCO changed hardware over time. Legacy catalogs frequently distinguish parts by date ranges, including a major distinction around June 2005.

Do you repair SEMCO sliding windows?

Yes. We can evaluate tracks, guides or rollers, locks, weatherstripping, screens, glass, and sash alignment.

Do you repair SEMCO sliding patio doors?

Yes. Service can include rollers, tracks, handles, locks, weatherstripping, screens, glass, panel alignment, and repairable wood components.

Do you repair SEMCO French or hinged patio doors?

Yes. We can evaluate hinges, locks, handles, multipoint or mortise hardware, weatherstripping, thresholds, glass, alignment, and localized wood deterioration.

Can you replace SEMCO screens?

Yes. Screen repair or replacement can be coordinated with other window repairs after the frame size and attachment style are identified.

Can you service several SEMCO windows in one house?

Yes. A whole-home inspection is useful when multiple units share similar age, hardware generations, glass failures, or wood deterioration.

Should I repair or replace my SEMCO windows?

If the main sash and frame remain structurally sound, repair is usually worth evaluating first. Extensive deterioration or unavailable critical components may make replacement more practical.

Are you affiliated with SEMCO or Sierra Pacific Windows?
