Replace the Glass — Keep the Existing Window or Door

A cracked pane, broken glass, fogging between panes, or a failed insulated glass unit can affect safety, visibility, comfort, appearance, and energy efficiency. But when the surrounding window or door remains in good condition, replacing the complete system is often unnecessary.

WindowFixGuru™ provides glass replacement for residential and commercial windows, patio and French doors, entry doors, sidelights, storm doors, storefronts, and other glass applications.

We evaluate the existing system to determine the appropriate glass type, thickness, configuration, and safety requirements. Whenever practical, we replace only the damaged or failed glass while preserving the components that are still performing properly.

Our Glass Repair & Replacement Services

Different glass problems require different solutions. A physically broken pane may need straightforward glass replacement, while fogging or moisture between panes usually indicates failure of a sealed insulated glass unit.

The right solution depends on what has actually failed and the condition of the surrounding window or door system.

Our glass replacement services include:

  • Broken & Cracked Glass Replacement
  • Single-Pane Glass Replacement
  • Double & Triple-Pane Glass Replacement
  • Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) Replacement
  • Foggy & Failed Seal Glass Replacement

  • Low-E Glass Replacement & Upgrades
  • Patio & French Door Glass Replacement

Windows & Doors

Glass Replacement for Almost Any Window or Door

WindowFixGuru™ replaces glass in virtually all common residential and commercial window and door configurations. We work with single-hung and double-hung windows, casement, awning and hopper windows, sliding and gliding windows, as well as picture, fixed, bay, bow, and garden windows.

Glass can also be replaced in less common configurations such as tilt & turn, transom and clerestory windows, basement windows, arched and round-top windows, and geometric or specialty-shaped windows.

For doors, we replace glass in sliding patio doors, French doors, entry doors, sidelights, and storm doors. We also work with commercial aluminum windows, storefront systems, and other commercial glass applications.

An unusual size or shape does not automatically mean the entire window needs replacement. If the surrounding system remains serviceable and compatible glass can be manufactured, glass-only replacement may still be possible.

Glass Options

The Right Glass for Your Window or Door

Replacement glass should match the construction, dimensions, safety requirements, and performance needs of the existing window or door.

WindowFixGuru™ works with traditional single-pane glass as well as double-pane and triple-pane insulated glass units (IGUs). Depending on the application, replacement options may include clear or Low-E glass, tempered or laminated safety glass, heat-strengthened glass, tinted glass, frosted or obscure privacy glass, patterned or decorative glass, and custom-shaped glass.

Appearance can also be an important consideration. Clear glass is the most common option, but bronze, gray, green, blue or blue-green tints, reflective coatings, translucent finishes, privacy glass, and decorative patterns may be available for certain applications.

Glass colors, tints, coatings, patterns, thicknesses, and configurations are subject to manufacturer availability and compatibility with the existing window or door system.

Foggy Glass

Foggy & Failed Insulated Glass

Fogging, haze, condensation, or moisture trapped between panes is one of the most common problems with double-pane and other insulated windows.

When the seal around an insulated glass unit fails, moisture can enter the space between the panes. Because the moisture is inside the sealed unit, cleaning the interior or exterior surface of the window will not remove the fogging.

In many cases, there is no reason to replace the complete window. The failed insulated glass unit can be removed and replaced with a new sealed unit while the existing sash, frame, locks, hardware, and operating components remain in place.

WindowFixGuru™ replaces failed double-pane and triple-pane insulated glass units to restore clarity and performance while preserving the existing window whenever practical.

Broken Glass

Broken & Cracked Window Glass

A crack may begin small and spread across the pane, while impact damage can cause glass to break or shatter immediately. In either situation, damaged glass should be properly replaced rather than treated as a reason to automatically replace the complete window.

If the sash, frame, and operating components remain serviceable, replacing only the damaged pane or glass unit can restore the window to normal use.

Depending on the location and application, replacement may require standard glass, insulated glass, tempered glass, laminated glass, or another safety-rated configuration. We evaluate the existing system and use the appropriate glass for the application.

Door Glass

Patio Door, French Door & Sidelight Glass Replacement

Large glass panels are common in sliding patio doors, French doors, entry doors, and sidelights. When one of these panels becomes cracked, broken, foggy, or loses its seal, homeowners sometimes assume the complete door needs to be replaced.

That is often not the case.

When the door panel, frame, hinges, rollers, locks, and other components remain serviceable, the glass itself may be replaced independently. Depending on the system, this may involve insulated, tempered, laminated, Low-E, decorative, or other specialized glass.

Sidelight glass can also often be replaced without replacing the entry door or complete sidelight assembly, provided the surrounding structure remains suitable for glass replacement.

Commercial

Commercial & Storefront Glass Replacement

WindowFixGuru™ also provides glass replacement for commercial properties, including commercial aluminum windows, storefront systems, entrance doors, and other commercial glass applications.

Commercial glass may have different size, thickness, safety, and performance requirements than residential glass. Depending on the application, replacement may involve tempered, laminated, insulated, tinted, Low-E, or other specialized glass.

When the existing commercial frame remains serviceable, replacing only the damaged glass can often restore the system without unnecessary removal of the complete window or storefront assembly.

Repair First

Glass Replacement vs. Complete Window Replacement

A failed glass unit does not automatically mean the window itself has failed.

When the frame, sash, hardware, locks, weatherstripping, and operating components remain in good serviceable condition, replacing only the glass can restore clarity, safety, appearance, and thermal performance while preserving the existing window.

Complete window replacement may make more sense when the frame or sash has significant structural deterioration, multiple major components have failed, or the overall condition of the system makes glass-only replacement impractical.

WindowFixGuru™ takes a repair-first approach and evaluates the existing system before recommending complete replacement.

If the glass has failed but the window is still good, replace the glass—not the entire window.

Questions & Answers

FAQ

Can you replace window glass without replacing the entire window?

Yes. In many cases, the damaged pane or insulated glass unit can be replaced while the existing sash, frame, hardware, and operating components remain in place.

Can foggy double-pane windows be repaired?

Fogging or moisture between the panes usually indicates that the seal of the insulated glass unit has failed. The failed IGU can often be replaced without replacing the complete window.

What is an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU)?

An IGU is a sealed assembly containing two or more panes of glass separated by a spacer. Double-pane and triple-pane windows commonly use insulated glass units to improve thermal performance.

Can you replace triple-pane window glass?

Yes, depending on the existing window system and availability of a compatible replacement unit. A custom triple-pane IGU can often be manufactured to fit the existing sash or frame.

Can you replace glass in patio and French doors?

Yes. Glass can be replaced in many sliding patio doors and French doors without replacing the complete door system, provided the surrounding door components remain serviceable.

Can sidelight glass be replaced without replacing the entry door?

In many cases, yes. Damaged or failed sidelight glass can often be replaced independently while preserving the existing entry door and sidelight frame.

Can you replace arched or specialty-shaped glass?

Yes. Many arched, round-top, geometric, and specialty-shaped glass units can be custom manufactured. Availability depends on the dimensions, shape, glass specifications, and construction of the existing window.

Can I upgrade the glass when it is being replaced?

Sometimes. Depending on the existing system, replacement may provide an opportunity to upgrade to Low-E, insulated, tinted, privacy, laminated, tempered, or other glass. Compatibility must be evaluated for the individual window or door.
